Protect yourself and the family.
I’m the last person to be alarmist but I have always believed that preparation is everything. I guess that’s the sailor in me.
As I write, many of those with piles of money are deserting the stock market and buying gold to protect their future. What that tells us ordinary folk is that savings and pensions are at risk. Indecision and confusion in the US and looming conflict escalation does not bode well for the world.
So, here’s the thing.
343 million people in the European continent make their purchases online, and 22.3% of them are in the UK.
Music, therapy, secretarial skills, health care, food, counselling, art, gifts, advice, mentoring, clothes, flowers – yes everything. Whatever you do for a living can be done online.
So, what does that mean? It means your office and everything you do, want to do, or develop into, can happen from your favourite café, your home and yes, even the beach.
I make music and distribute it, run my radio station, deliver leadership and mentoring courses and organise projects in partnership with my alma mater. I’ve been amazed by the power of the laptop. Have an idea, design, appoint manufacturer and distribute – incredible. I’m currently organising merchandise for the band. I don’t see it. People will order it and it’s drop shipped. If you don’t understand this then perhaps you could explore.
The way I see it is this - I’m free to move, no nine to five slavery; I can diversify and stay fleet of foot; and, crucially, I can be there for the family when they need me. Whatever is happening around me I can trade and earn.
Julia had cancer twice. That was our devastating nemesis, our pain point. At first, I was too weak to do anything. Worried and frightened, then paralysed. This was either going to destroy us both or be the signal that life had to change.
Nick, our close friend introduced me to Launch You, a concept of developing your skill and passion online. I loved the idea of passive income, earning while you learn and 24/7 turn over.
Julia and I embraced the freedom and opportunity and - I’m sure she will tell you this - the positivity of the community we joined helped her recover and me cope and develop a secure future.
